Brett Hiker is performing at Vail Comedy Festival May 26-28, 2023

Brett Hiker (2022)

Brett Hiker may look like he’s better suited for clearing brush or moving crates down at the dock, but he has become one of the more popular comedians currently touring the country. After spending the first 10 years of his livelihood (15-25) bouncing around working class jobs, Hiker was on a loose pace of getting fired every 6 months for spending more time trying to make his coworkers laugh than doing any sort of actual work. This all ended in 2008 when he found a job that would pay him for doing exactly that. A career in comedy has taken Hiker all over North America and afforded him the opportunities to travel overseas to perform in front of large foreign audiences that both laugh with and AT his boorish American ways. He is also a stalwart of the North American festival circuit and has showcased his comedy at prestigious events like the Aspen, Limestone, and High Plains comedy fests. Hiker’s stand-up made its TV debut in 2011 on the After After Party: with Steven Michael Quezada — Gomez from Breaking Bad (most Americans do not recall the short-lived late night talk show that was quickly cancelled due to their stand-up bookings.) Since then his comedy has been featured on Fox, the CW, Comcast and dozens of morning radio shows across the country. From growing up deep in the mountains of Colorado, to living a fast paced life in Manhattan, to countless months spent abroad as an expat; Hiker’s broad appeal provides his tour schedule with the variety of large city theaters, small town bars, and every comedy club in between. While Hiker is now a full time comic (or “chortle-monger” as he like’s to call it), he spent his first 5 years in the comedy business keeping himself financially afloat by working during the day as a stagehand on some of Hollywood’s biggest blockbusters. Anecdotes from the set of superhero movies, Scorsese projects, and life around celebrities have made Hiker a fan favorite and still inspires crowd members to shout out requests of some of his most popular tales. [Sometimes after shows, audience members point out Hiker has a strong resemblance to Carl Pilkington, which he adamantly denies. But later begrudgingly nods when people point out he also acts like an idiot when abroad. (Hence the brass-knuckle scar embedded in his mustache.)] When not on stage, Hiker can be found drinking on rooftops, shouting at pigeons, or in the park dropping the spool of a kite he’s flying and gleefully chasing after it.
